This gave me my power BACK. I started using the tools I was already certified in, like neuro-linguistic programming, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or tapping), clinical hypnotherapy and others to reprogram the way my mind viewed trigger noises. The results were absolutely unbelievable.

For the first time in my life, I believed relief from Misophnia was possible.

 

In fact, just a few short months after intentionally using these modalities to get relief from Misophonia–I experienced my first weekend completely trigger free.

That's how I know that unconscious reprogramming is the method to living a more regulated life, Misophonia-free.

My Healing Philosophy

 

My healing philosophy blends personal experience with years of learning about how the unconscious mind works. Through a communication degree, thorough certification programs, additional training, reading, and supporting hundreds of clients—a unique framework has been cultivated.

I’ve learned that unconscious reprogramming is the method to living Misophonia-free; the framework operates through 3 main keys: Shifting Your Perspective, Rewiring Your Mind, and Cultivating Lasting Relief.

Misophonia is a pattern that’s operating in the unconscious mind that we then experience at the conscious level. It goes something like this: mind hears sound ➝ identifies sound as a threat ➝ creates a strong emotion in you to motivate action ➝ action is taken to eliminate/get away from threat.

Or, in other words: you hear a trigger noise ➝ get really angry ➝ storm out of the room. 

Because we break and create new patterns all the time, we can do the same with noise sensitivity. It takes commitment, effort and practice, and also it can be done. The first step is fostering trust with the unconscious mind, so we can work with it instead of against it. This trust makes the more challenging processes easier to navigate and more effective.

Rather than starting with how you feel when a trigger is happening, we might start with the anticipation you feel before, or the lingering effects you experience afterwards. This momentum allows us to go even deeper, rewiring the meaning your mind has attached to trigger noises all together. So instead of them being a threat, the noises are just that…noises, and nothing else. 

As this update sinks in, you naturally become less bothered by the noises that caused pain in the past. We use multi-level communication to achieve this, or communicate with the unconscious mind in a way it actually understands and responds to (through imagery, storytelling, symbolism, etc.) We aren’t trying to “logic” our way out of Misophonia, because we already know that doesn’t work. 

With clients, we celebrate even the “teeny tiny” wins and embrace that healing often isn’t linear. By taking a holistic approach, we remove as many obstacles as possible and generate motivation to continue this self-development work. We’ll shift your mindset, foster better relationships with those around you to create safer environments, and integrate coping mechanisms in a way that’s helpful, rather than harmful. Bringing fun and play into the process, your mind is naturally less resistant to the shifts we’re creating. 

You might still be wondering: what’s the difference between healing and relief from Misophonia? For me, it’s simple. Healing from Misophonia means healing the anger, resentment, guilt, shame and other consequences that have accumulated by living with a noise sensitivity.

Relief means no longer being bothered by the sounds that used to cause so much pain. (While I may sometimes use these words interchangeably to match how my clients describe their experiences, this is my “official” definition of them.) 

Overall, my goal is to help you lessen the intensity of your triggers, alleviate your suffering from Misophonia, and experience more joy in your life.

Taking A Holistic Approach

 

Because of the stigma still clouding Misophonia, people often avoid talking about it. They may not be comfortable sharing what they’ve tried, what helped, what didn’t, etc. You may not see people reporting something until they’ve experienced significant relief—distorting the role of other work that influenced healing along the way.

This can manifest as someone saying that one particular treatment was the “golden ticket” and then someone else tries it and is disappointed when it doesn’t have the same effect. Is it that one particular treatment was the miracle solution, or is it that everything they tried up until that point played a role in the relief process?

Healing isn’t linear. And as human beings, if we don’t see 100% success right away, we’re often tempted to throw in the towel.

Or in other words, if we aren’t completely Misophonia-free after trying something, even if it provided some relief, we say it didn’t work at all. This is not only harmful for the participants of these methods, but harmful for those who are trying to pick what to do next. It doesn’t create a clear map that others can follow. It’s more like your kid’s watercolor art that runs together after hanging it on the fridge before it’s done drying. Muddled. Confusing.

If someone experiences amazing relief after working with me, I don’t assume it’s all from our time together. I assume that what they tried before, likely played a role in their success. Just like if someone works with me and experiences 50% improvement, and then goes on to work with another provider and completely eliminates the pattern of Misophonia, I expect that what we did together supported them in that next endeavor.

When we celebrate the progress we make along the way, instead of downplaying our success, we naturally motivate ourselves to seek more success, or continue the healing journey. We tell our brains, “Ahh, yes! We’re going in the right direction. Let’s keep this up!” Whereas, when we downplay the improvement we’re making, or focus on what isn’t better yet, we’re more likely to backtrack or create more negativity in our lives.

For this reason, I’m a huge fan of approaching Misophonia holistically. I don’t assume that any one therapy, modality, exercise, etc. is going to be a magic cure. Instead, it’s these approaches combined with the intentional celebration of progress that make a real difference.

That’s why I employ several different modalities when we work together. It’s why we don’t overly rely on coping mechanisms, or completely write them off. It’s why I often send clients progress journals to physically track their wins. It’s why my clients actually experience success in their Misophonia relief journeys. 

Having an open mind is crucial when approaching anything new, especially when healing a pattern you’ve been experiencing for several years.

🔑 3 Keys To Misophonia Relief

 

As mentioned, the framework developed over the years includes three distinct keys: Shifting Your Perspective; Rewiring Your Mind; Cultivating Lasting Relief.

Shifting Your Perspective is simply the starting point for interacting with noise sensitivity in a way that aids in the relief process, rather than brewing more negativity. If you believe that there’s nothing you can do and you’re doomed to suffer for the rest of your life—then this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Your mind will seek more and more evidence to prove this true; however, if you can shift your perspective and actively seek opportunities to celebrate even the tiny baby steps in your progress, you help the mind seek more evidence to prove that relief is possible.

In this stage, we also dissolve any secondary gains that might be unknowingly sabotaging your journey to relief. What’s a secondary gain? It’s a sneaky, often hidden benefit that the unconscious mind perceives to be valuable, even though consciously we might know the thing we’re doing isn’t healthy. For example, smokers…they may consciously know that smoking is bad, can lead to lung cancer, etc. and yet they continue to smoke, even though they want to quit. Why? Their unconscious mind perceives some benefit from smoking. Maybe it’s stress relief, a social outlet, or something else. And when it comes to willpower vs. the unconscious mind, the unconscious mind wins almost every time.

So with Misophonia, there may be a sneaky benefit the mind perceives from continued suffering, even though consciously you want nothing more than to kick your noise sensitivity to the curb. We’ll uncover any of these and clear them, so the path forward to relief is more straightforward. We want the mind to be on board with creating change, rather than fighting against it.

You’ve likely been suffering for years and years. Even good change can feel scary to the unconscious mind. Its prime directive is to keep you alive. Your unconscious mind isn’t wired for self-development, thriving, or all around good times. It’s wired for survival. So if you’re breathing, have food, water and shelter—mind is like: why are we rocking the boat?

Building trust with the mind first, makes the rest of the work a lot easier and more effective.

Rewiring Your Mind is where we really dive into the mechanics of helping the mind understand that noises aren’t actually a threat. They are just that…noises, and nothing else. We consciously know that a whistle isn’t chasing after us with a sock full of nickels, trying to kill us, and yet…we still feel disgust, anger or rage when these noises are present. That’s because the pattern of Misophonia doesn’t live in the conscious mind; it lives and operates in the unconscious mind and then we experience it at the conscious level. 

So trying to logic our way out of Misophonia doesn’t work. Just deciding to “get over it” isn’t effective. Telling yourself that “no one else is bothered by these noises” isn’t helpful. Because the unconscious mind isn’t getting the message. 

The conscious and unconscious mind communicate in different ways: the conscious mind is where our creativity, logic and reasoning flourish. The unconscious mind better understands stories, imagery, metaphors, symbols, colors and other more elusive communication efforts.

So if we want to help the unconscious mind understand what we consciously know, then we need to communicate this in a way it understands.

We can use multi-level communication to achieve this. Or in other words, through storytelling, imagery, symbols, etc. This is exactly what the program supports you in doing, through this second key.

Rewiring helps you uninstall the pattern of Misophonia and install a new understanding (that noises aren’t actually a threat) that is more useful for you moving forward.

Now, this does take conscious effort and commitment. It gets to be fun, there is laughter involved, and it doesn’t have to be painful. But also, you have to put in the work and there will be some discomfort along the way. It’s worth it, though.

As we update this pattern, the final key is Cultivating Lasting Relief. 

We can do all the rewiring work we want, but if we don’t also address the underlying emotions associated with Misophoinia…we can find ourselves sucked right back into the suffering spiral. 

The unconscious mind doesn’t particularly care if you feel good or bad. Instead, it focuses on keeping you alive, and uses emotions as a tool to do this. It knows emotions are strong motivators. If the mind feels you’re in danger from a noise, it may create anger, knowing that this anger will motivate you to leave the room or ask the person to stop making said noise—thus eliminating the threat.

So if we don’t integrate better ways to recognize and process our emotions, this work may not be as effective.

That’s why the final key focuses on exactly that—integrating better ways to process and navigate emotions, so the relief you experience from Misophonia is long-lasting.

We do this through tools like Emotional Freedom Technique (or tapping), unconscious reprogramming tools and other modalities.

Hi, I'm Brooklyn. đź‘‹

My passion for understanding, working with and ethically influencing the unconscious mind is evident in my unique coaching framework. I’m certified in neuro-linguistic programming, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/tapping), T.I.M.E. Techniques, clinical hypnotherapy, and life and success coaching. I also have a degree in Communication, with an intentional focus on nonviolent communication. I infuse these modalities into my work for effective coaching and long-lasting results for clients.

I suffered from Misophonia for more than 20 years before finally experiencing relief through exploring unconscious reprogramming for myself. After getting results, I offered to support others in the noise sensitivity community. After successful results with one-to-one clients, my signature program, Rewire Misophonia At The Source, was born.

With continuous updates and added resources, it’s an affordable and efficient way to begin the journey toward Misophonia relief. I also host the free, Let’s Ditch Misophonia Podcast, same-named YouTube channel and offer many free virtual trainings and resources to help people lessen their triggers, alleviate their suffering from Misophonia, and experience more joy in their lives.

To date, I’ve supported more than one thousand people with extreme noise sensitivities.

My Misophonia Story

 

Suffering for the majority of my life, Misophonia was the thing I hated about myself. I believed “if I could just get rid of this, then my life would be so much better.”

No matter how much I tried to escape, I could never fully get away from the noises that triggered me. It was an every-minute-of-every-day curse.

It made it difficult to keep friendships, nurture romantic relationships, and get along with family. At my lowest points, I wanted to die.

It was also a major secret; only those closest to me knew anything about it. I’d been scarred enough times from someone finding out and then making noises on purpose to torture me. I heard enough times, “You’re crazy.” People telling me to “just get over it.”

I know the panic when you hear a noise and can’t find an escape. I know what it’s like when your ears are bleeding from plugging them so hard. I know what it’s like hating people just because of the noises they make and subsequently feeling like a terrible person. I also know what it’s like when people diminish your experience or don’t believe you.

I truly believed I would suffer for the rest of my life, until…

I realized simply this: the noises weren’t causing me pain. Other people weren’t causing me pain. The MEANING MY MIND attached to the sounds is what caused me pain.

This gave me my power back. Because I can’t control other people. And I can’t change the environment around me. But I can influence my own thinking and my own mind.

That’s exactly what I did. I used unconscious reprogramming modalities to install the belief that healing was possible, to rewire the meaning my mind associated with my trigger noises, and finally to cultivate lasting relief by integrating better ways to navigate strong emotions.

I’m now more than two years into Misophonia relief. It’s my mission to support as many people as possible in experiencing this relief too.

I’m also passionate about supporting people with the least amount of discomfort possible. I don’t want you to cry your eyes out, relive traumatic memories, or feel “icky” in order to feel better. If difficult things surface while we work together then we’ll address them. But feeling bad isn’t a prerequisite to healing from Misophonia.
